Members receive two newsletters a year with articles and information about the Trust’s activities, current projects and topics of interest on conservation and garden history.
The Trust organises at least one lecture each year, usually in November, which are convivial affairs when we also enjoy some food and a glass of wine. Topics recently have been Landscapes at Risk – protecting the historic parks and gardens of Kent by Charlotte McLean from English Heritage; Bankers and Botanists – the Lubbock family and their garden at Emmetts when Richard Wheeler of the National Trust talked about the remarkable discovery of some early photographs of the garden; and Four thousand years in the making of Sissinghurst when Tom Turner explained the influences on the design of the garden at Sissinghurst.
Several visits take place each year to gardens of historic or horticultural interest and very often the owner or head gardener is our guide. Sometimes the tour is enhanced by a talk from a knowledgeable garden historian and there may be a chance to look at original plans and pictures which are not normally accessible to the public.
We are also keen to encourage members to volunteer to help with current projects and for more information on this please look at our Volunteers page.
